Observing the Coastline
This Seascape is part of an ongoing collection I began in 2020, which continues to evolve. New photographs will be added gradually. One of the ways one can explore the Amalfi Coast is by taking a small motorboat from the port of Salerno, with a friend who knows how to navigate. Slowly moving along the coastline, you are led to stop wherever the fuel allows, taking time to observe the steep rock walls that form the edge of this mythologised region. The Amalfi Coast is one of the most iconic tourist destinations in Italy. But without walking its trails or seeing it from the sea, the vision one retains is often chaotic, postcard-like, and shaped by global tourism imagery. By contrast, what interests me is the composition of its rocky body, and the intimate practices of those who walk long paths to reach places like the Fjord of Crapolla. These views demand a kind of attention that resists cliché.
