My Summer Visits to the Design Museum of Helsinki
A place where everybody can seat
Now that autumn is here, I find myself reminiscing about the incredible summer I had. In June I spent my days setting up my office just in front of the Design Museum of Helsinki, where the road is closed and design takes over to offer a public space for people wanting to to seat, work, observe the Hellsinki life… I think it’s one of my favourite spots in the city.
Strategies for Moving Freely
Not to mention that the museum exhibitions are just stunning. I am still thinking about (just to mention one of them) the incredible exhibition by Jenny Nordberg: Strategies for Moving Freely. A design thinking approach to life that comes to my mind every single time I turn a lamp on in my office (you have to watch at least one of her videos…).
This exhibition, which is Nordberg’s first solo exhibition in Finland, showcases her unique approach to design. Nordberg is known for her insightful perspective on mass production, over-consumption, and the duty of designers to address these issues. Her works are not only thought-provoking but also carry a humorous and solution-oriented approach to serious themes.
The exhibition features a number of Nordberg’s recent works, each piece reflecting her problem-based and research-driven design process. From material experimentation to the creation of surprising new objects, Nordberg’s work encourages viewers to take responsibility for their choices of objects and materials.
If you ever find yourself in Helsinki, I highly recommend a visit to the Design Museum.
