DIPLOMACY – Edoardo Aruta’s Installation at the Afghan Embassy in Rome

📍 Embassy & Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Rome

📅 Friday, March 21, 2025 | 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

An Artistic Dialogue Between Diplomacy and Identity

The Embassy of Afghanistan in Rome and Tramandars present DIPLOMACY, a site-specific installation by Edoardo Aruta, curated by Christian Taranto, with texts by Gianluca Sensale. The event reinterprets the role of art in diplomatic relations, using artistic language to explore the intersection between geopolitical narratives, cultural identity, and symbolic space.

This one-night exhibition, hosted within the diplomatic quarters of the Afghan Embassy, invites visitors to engage in a visual and conceptual reflection on boundaries, political discourse, and representation.

About the Exhibition

DIPLOMACY examines the embassy as a liminal space—a territory that is simultaneously inside and outside the nation it represents. Much like a body, it serves as a point of connection and separation, embodying both territorial presence and symbolic distance.

Edoardo Aruta’s work delves into the historical and ideological role of embassies, considering how they curate national identity through art, culture, and representation. The installation revisits diplomatic artifacts, visual archives, and symbolic gestures, reinterpreting their role in contemporary discourse.

Through mixed-media installations, archival materials, and sculptural elements, DIPLOMACY challenges the way politics, negotiation, and power structures shape narratives within institutional settings.

A Multi-Layered Experience

Alongside the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to experience Afghan culture through:

Exclusive access to the Embassy & Mission of Afghanistan

Why This Event Matters?

DIPLOMACY isn’t just an exhibition—it’s a critical reflection on how cultural representation, power structures, and visual language intersect in global politics.

Through art, archives, and performative elements, the exhibition invites visitors to question:

Can deterritorialized art challenge geopolitical narratives?

What role does art play in soft power and diplomacy?
