A visual manifesto emerging from Alessia Siniscalchi’s Voleurs de jambon

Project Plans Cities Theatre is an installation I created within the scenographic space of the contemporary cabaret show Voleurs de jambon, written and directed by Alessia Siniscalchi. The performance tells the story of a Neapolitan couple longing to migrate to the United States in search of a future in show business. Set in a city of departure and memory, the show blends autobiography, satire, and live music. This installation led me to write a personal manifesto on theatre photography—an attempt to reflect on how images, like performances, can act as translations, archives, and fragile constructions of meaning.

This installation stems from my ongoing investigation into theatre photography as a form of archive, and the depiction of the city—Naples—as a space of archival writing. But it also marks a moment of reflection: how to document a performance while engaging with its content, and how to let the act of photographing become a continuation of the performance itself.

Project Plans Cities Theatre is also a reworking of my personal photographic archives and image collections—fragments, bodies, gestures, urban textures. Among them are the images that later composed the book project Dust of Days. This layering of material gave rise to a visual and conceptual space where documentation, scenography, and archival writing intertwine.
