The graphic design respects the identity of a university journal while introducing a visual vocabulary adapted to the urgency of the theme. Particular attention was given to the structure and typographic rhythm of the issue. The interleaves and thematic transitions are marked by the use of green, a colour drawn from the Palestinian flag — not as a nationalistic reference, but as a chromatic space evoking resistance and hope. We explicitly distance ourselves from any form of nationalism. It is more a way to to evoke a field of hope and to reflect on Thomas Hirschhorn’s question: “How can we make art in times of catastrophe?”

Although K is an academic journal, this issue expands its structure to include a dedicated visual section, WORKS, where artists, archives, and poetic documents contribute to a collective aesthetic and political reflection. For this portfolio, I present selected page spreads from the WORKS section, including:

  • stills from the film Terrace of the Sea by Diana Allan

  • a etter by Alfredo Jaar,

  • archival photographs from the Permanent Collection of the Palestinian Museum,

  • and a page from the project by Domenico Antonio Mancini.

These visual contributions deepen the issue’s dialogue between poetry, testimony, and aesthetic resistance.

The campaign also included adapting the graphic elements for Instagram and web publication. The cover image is Monochrome Resistance, Based on photograph by Hashem el Madani, Saida, 1970, 2025 by Akram Zaatari, whom we thank for his generous contribution. The design process was also based on an initial editorial layout created by Patrizio Esposito, who helped launch the call for papers and contributed with a photograph from the Fuori Fuoco archive.
