A photographic look across the contested waters of Southern Italy
The Strait of Messina has recently been at the centre of numerous media and political conversations in Italy, due to the proposed construction of a bridge connecting Sicily to Calabria. This has also led to the emergence of movements critical of the project. The Strait is a geographic area where multiple tensions converge, and it has long stood at the centre of the Mediterranean from a historical perspective. It is, of course, a zone of great complexity, which small landscape photographs can only barely scratch the surface of.
These are brief and diverse viewpoints across the wide area of the Strait of Messina.
