Documenting Artistic Gestures in a Printmaking Workshop with Vittorio Avella in Naples
As part of my ongoing visual research into the gestures of artists, I participated in a printmaking workshop led by Vittorio Avella, one of the leading masters of Italian and Neapolitan printmaking, and the young artist Giovanni Timpani. My focus was not only on learning techniques but also on documenting the atmosphere of the studio and the precise, expressive gestures that define the practice of Maestro Avella. The photographs aim to preserve the subtle movements of artistic labour, offering a visual archive of the workshop space and the tactile moment of creation, from plate preparation to final impressions.
