A Replicable Model for Independent Art Spaces

This approach aims to create a scalable and customizable design framework, ideal for artist-run spaces, collectives, and cultural associations looking to manage their visual identity independently.

The modular system shoud enable:

Efficient exhibition branding – adaptable for any event while maintaining consistency.

Low-cost print and digital solutions – posters, social media templates, and signage that can be updated in minutes.

Sustainability through open-source tools – using non-proprietary fonts and layouts that ensure creative freedom.

A Design System Rooted in Commons Culture

The project takes an ethical and collective approach, utilising open-source typefaces and resources from independent design communities.

Apfel Grotezk, designed by Luigi Gorlero and licensed by www.collletttivo.it, a collective that researches typography from a cultural and historical perspective.

Fonts from Bye Bye Binary, a post-binary typographic platform that redefines type design as an inclusive, political act. The collective works with feminist, queer, and trans perspectives, ensuring typefaces that challenge traditional structures of language and representation.

This research extends from my work on Alterlibrary, a project developed with Science of Singularities, where I also investigate new forms of archiving and visual communication for artists and thinkers.

Beyond Professionalism: Visual Tools for Artistic Communities

One of the main objectives of this project is to make art documentation accessible to non-designers. Too often, graphic design relies on complex proprietary software, making it inaccessible to grassroots collectives, independent artists, and small-run spaces. This project challenges that exclusivity by proposing a flexible, adaptable visual system that can be easily used by artists and art workers without formal graphic training.
