Luca Resta’s work originates from objects. As a collector of everyday forms, he explores the vertigo of accumulation through disposable cutlery, supermarket packaging, and cardboard boxes. His practice resembles contemporary archaeology, shaping installations where copies, reiterations, and layers unfold through his manual precision, diverse materials, and meticulously constructed visual circuits.
ALLEGORIA CON ORTAGGI, POLLAME, CESTI E VASELLAME (Allegory with greens, fowle, baskettes and vesselle) explores the textures and myths of our reality. Full press release.
Documenting an exhibition is never a neutral act—it requires a negotiation between visibility and interpretation. My dialogue with Luca Resta shaped a long refinement process, searching for the most accurate way to depict this exhibition within its low-light setting. We questioned how photography, rather than asserting a fixed stylistic presence, could disappear, allowing the exhibition’s materiality to define the image rather than vice versa. This exploration wasn’t about neutrality but finding the right degree of photographic intervention that acknowledges the pieces’ sculptural qualities without flattening them into mere representations. On the other hand, the challenge—and my pleasure—was to amplify the material density of Luca’s sculptures: the weight of the surfaces, the tactile consistencies, the way objects resisted or absorbed light.
