Istanbul is modern
I like to tell to my friends that one can’t really say that Europe is a known continent if one have never been at lest once in Istanbul, the biggest city in Europe, and in Lisbon, possibly the calmest capital in Europe (let’s say, on the total opposite side). And I believe in that, firmly. Staring at Bosphorus from a window, early in the morning or during the sunset, is the most mediative thing one can ever do. And then I know, there’s that horrible internal contradiction: one do not have to depict a city just because one is able to take photographs. How could it even be possible to tell about a city? I personally still think that is a good move in life to seat on plastic chair on the edge of the Bosphorus and to be prepared (or not) to answer questions from young (or old) stambouliotes. Still, we have to hate travellers and explorers.
