Une nuit américaine
The Night Just Before the Forest, une nuit américaine is a play by Bernard-Marie Koltès, directed by Philip Boulay for Wor(l)ds… Cie. in an English translation.
The stage poster and booklet draw from Safe Trip Home, an ongoing book project — a series of mysterious interiors, paired with abstract exteriors, to build a visual environment for Koltès’ play. The typographic work — a palimpsest, an engraving of one typeface over another — echoes the translation at the base of the production: Boulay directed the play in English, and the design tries to render the complexity of his research on Koltès, whose most important plays he has directed, and whose work he approaches through a personal research on the actor that is inseparable from his direction.
